About the Project
Where is the Foreshore?
The Northern shore of Derwentwater, close to the town of Keswick in Cumbria. The Foreshore stretches from the underpass leading from Keswick town centre, down to the boat landings and along the shore to Friars Crag.
What's so special about the Foreshore?
Often the first port of call for many visitors to the Lake District, the Foreshore is the gateway into Borrowdale, one of the most spectacular valleys in the North Lakes. It is a local beauty spot which is enjoyed by local people and holidaymakers alike.
What is the Project aiming to do?
Under the pressure of so many visitors , the Foreshore has deteriorated over recent years to such an extent that landowners and users, local people and organisations developed a project to:
-
restore the site
-
improve long term management
-
help people to appreciate and understand its unique heritage
Who funded the Project?
The Project has been made possible through a grant of £1,255,112 from the BIG Lottery Fund and Heritage Lottery fund. Additional funding has come from Allerdale Borough Council, Cumbria Vision, the Lake District National Park Authority, the National Trust, Keswick Town Council and Keswick Civic Society.
